Using Natural Insecticides

Natural InsecticidesWhen you become a homeowner, one of the things you tend to not think about is pest control, and certainly not about using a natural insecticide. Until you wake up and find a trail of marching ants making their way through your kitchen. Or maybe it's a beautiful Spring evening, and as soon as you walk out the door, your are under attack from mosquitoes and other flying pests. That is when you start thinking about how to get rid of them. You really have two options available to you, natural insecticide or synthetic insecticide. Either choice is up to you. Both are effective, but many would argue that using a natural alternative is safer for you, your family, your pets, and the environment.

There really are so many options, even when it comes to choosing a natural insecticide. Let's take a look at what some of those products are and consist of, as well as what they treat. As with most insecticides, you want to treat the problem without damaging anything else. A commonly used form of natural insecticide is considered systemic. What that means is that it is either sprayed on the plant or tilled into the ground. It then grows up through the plant, and when the insect decides to take a bite, it is killed as it ingests the plant. Others are made as granules, dust, powder, spray, fumigant and many more options.

You may end up hiring a pest control company to help rid you of your pests, or you may opt to save a few dollars and do it yourself. Many of the do it yourself pest controls that are natural use a form of Pyrethrum Daisy. It is used in a powder form, or in a spray form. Some also use boric acid, either as the primary ingredient or a base to their product. Both of these, and these are just the beginning of what most of the natural insecticides are made of.

Back to our ant control problem, a great, natural way to treat them is with either the Mother Earth Granular Scatter Bait or one of the EcoPco products. Both work great on ants as well as other crawling pests. You will want to place the granules or dust where the pests like to hide, and at any entrance points. Make sure to treat any and all cracks and crevices. Also, make sure that if you have any debris around your home, like leaves and such, clear them away first, then apply the product. Both of these products can be used either inside or outside.

Another pest problem that we often face, no matter where we live, is spider control. One great natural insecticide that works well is the Dr. T's Cobweb Eliminator. This is a spray that you use on cobwebs. It is 100% bio-degradable. Once sprayed on the web, it discourages spider activity and it lasts up to three months. It too can be used indoor and outdoor, just make sure before you use the product that you clear away any debris from your home, like leaves, and stacked wood, and clear out your gutters and downspouts. Those tend to be places that spiders like to hide. Taking these steps will only help in making sure these pests stay away.

Now on to tackle those pesky mosquitoes. They are a nuisance and can carry harmful diseases, not only to humans, but our family pets. Mosquito Sentry is a 100% green form of repellent. It is completely safe around people and pets, and it isn’t harmful to good insects. Another reason this is a great product to use for mosquito control is because it is not something you have to spray on your body. Once you have poured the liquid into the machine, you just turn it on, and you instantly have a repellent that is forming a barrier around you and your family.

Lastly, any time you use a pesticide, even a natural insecticide, be sure to read and follow all posted directions. Using the product correctly ensures the accuracy of getting rid of the pests. Make sure to follow all safety instructions as well. Just because something is considered natural, doesn't necessarily mean that it's safer than a synthetic one. You will want to keep these products in the same place you have all the rest, away and out of reach from your kids and family pets.
