Choosing a Rodent Control Product

Rodent TrapWhen choosing a rodent control product the first thing you need to know is exactly what kind of rodent it is. That will help determine if you are going to be trapping and baiting merely for relocation or to eradicate it. The next thing you need to do is make your property outside as inhospitable to the rodents as possible and clean up any debris that might attract them and sometimes make structural changes or even use repellents to drive them away.

Most people choose to use a rodenticide rodent control product for rats and mice infestations. Trapping and releasing sounds kinder, but often seems to become a never-ending catch and release project. If you have an armadillo invasion many people have success with trapping and/or scaring them away. Gophers and moles are a different story. Some people have success with putting up special fencing around the area they are digging in, and others swear by flooding them out.

Armadillos are best known in Texas though they range in warm climates all the way to parts of New Mexico. These armor plated pests industriously dig up lawns and ardens in their search for a variety of bugs, termites, and ants to eat. They use their muscular front legs and well-designed claws to dig up their delicacies. The good news is that they are fairly easy-going and seem to gravitate away without the use of a rodent control product. Simply remove their camping facilities in brush or leaf pile. If they are persistent most people seem to do well with mountain lion urine repellent or live traps and removal to wilder landscapes.

Gophers and moles also dig and destroy your yard, but they are a lot more determined than armadillos. Did I mention that they are smart and persistent pests? A proven method of getting rid of these pests, if it's not high summer in a drought is to find their active tunnels and flood them out for fifteen to twenty minutes. Another way to tell them sayonara is to find out where they are coming from and dig a deep enough trench that they won't be able to dig under it. Of course it must also be high enough that they can't climb it which just might be worse than the damage they do. Happily though, bobcat urine granules seems to be one rodent control product that fear into the hearts of these critters and drives them to greener pastures.

You can choose a rodent control product from amongst a veritable smorgasbord of rodent control methods and products. A variety of locking rat bait stations is available which effectively keep the poisons out of the reach of everyone except the rodents. There are styles for mounting on or adjacent to fences, low profiles for fitting in tight place where rodents seem to travel, and even some for corners. There are several improvements available of the old-fashioned snap trap which is effectively baited with rodenticides which will take care of even the crafty thieves among your pests.

Even if your pest control problem isn’t a rodent, your local do it yourself pest control experts will be able to help you with bee hives, flea control, and cockroach control including the most effective products for your region.
